Join your fellow Owl Club members as we travel to Holland, Michigan, for the 95th Annual Tulip Festival. Here’s a look at the itinerary:
- Upon arrival, you will have time on your own around the city square, where you may wish to hear an organ concert at Hope College Dimnent Chapel, visit some of the many unique shops, or spend some time walking the various tulip paths in Centennial Park. Did you know more than 48,000 tulips are planted in the park?
- Our next stop will be Holland’s Senior Center, where we will enjoy a Dutch lunch and entertainment by Dutch dancers in their authentic customs and wooden shoes.
- After lunch, sit back and relax as we drive the Tulip Trail through city streets lined with multicolored tulips.
- Next we head to Veldheer’s Tulip Gardens and Deklomp Wooden Shoe and Delft Factory. This is Holland’s only tulip farm and perennial garden with over 5 million tulips. The garden was started in 1950 by Vern Veldheer as a hobby farm with 100 red tulips and 300 white tulips. Today, you can walk through over 5.5 million flowers, 50,000 daffodils, 10,000 hyacinths, and 20,000 crocuses. You may want to order bulbs that will be sent to you in the fall for your flower garden. Also on the grounds is the Delftare Factory, the official Dutch pottery. Watch as the artist paints and glazes each piece.
- Before we head for home, you can buy an afternoon treat at one of the area’s most popular ice cream places.
The trip cost of $110 per person includes all attractions, lunch, entertainment, and travel via Motorcoach. (It does not include the afternoon ice cream snack.) Once registered, this is a non-refundable trip. Seats are limited. The balance is due on April 12 and can be paid by cash, check, or credit card on campus.
