Rabbit Trails into History – Expanding Our Perspective. This unique class will use an academically prepared list of important worldwide historical events from the period 1900 to the present day as weekly discussion starters.
At the end of each class, we will select a topic for the following week, so you will have an opportunity to investigate it if you wish (not required). The class will not use lectures or presentations but will rely solely on open discussion.
We will begin each class by reading a two- or three-paragraph description of the topic selected, then open discussion. The objective is to discover details about these events we didn’t know and possibly connect them to more widely known information, expanding our overall perspective. An interesting example might be the 1914 U.S. Navy shelling of the city of Vera Cruz, Mexico, ordered by President Woodrow Wilson.
